Evelyn Glennie

Evelyn Glennie Shows
How To Listen

The thing that struck me most about this video is?

This lady is def and she doesn’t let that stop her from being great. Even though she is def, she acts like she is perfectly normal and doesn’t have that disability. When I heard her playing the instrument, I never would have thought that she was def, because the music was so magnificent. And when we heard she was def, I thought, “Wow I can’t believe someone that is def could be his great at music because she couldn’t hear what she was playing.

What did I notice most?”

What I noticed most about this video was, that in a way this lady is not def, because she can feel and hear through her heart and the vibrations in her arms. I also noticed that she really got into the music and is very passionate about what she does.

What did I enjoy?

The main thing I enjoyed about this video is that the music was so beautiful and soothing. I really enjoyed being able to listen to her playing and watch her play like she could actually hear the sound coming from those intruments

Community Garden

When i went to the community garden, I was able to interview someone who works at the farmers market.

What's your name?
Fransisco.

How long have you worked here?
6 years.
What is different about the food here rather than food from the store?
Its fresh and strait out of the source, we never pick when the food is not ripe, we let it ripen the pick. There is nothing that we used to speed up the ripening process, it is all ripened by the sun.

Do you encourage people to start there own garden?
If they can go ahead and try, it is always good to start something new and when they do, they know more about what they eat.

What is different from working here, rather than working at a regular store?
There is a different feeling and there is nothing better than being right here where it all happens.

After I interviewed him, I thought about these questions.

1. What struck you about the location you visited? Was it what you expected, or very different?
It was nothing like i expected, I thought there wouldn't be a lot of people there buying things but i was wrong. It was cool being able to see and taste the difference from food here and food at a regular store.

2. Which items were cheaper than you expected? Which were more expensive?
There wasn't one specific item that was cheaper or more expensive, over all it was more expensive.

3. Do you think you will start going to a farmers market more often? Or using a community garden? Or supporting a CSA?
If it was my choice to go to one of these places of a store, i would rather go to a farmers market or community garden because the food there is so fresh and good tasting.

4. How do these locations fit into our essential questions of “Why Don’t People Live More Sustainably?” and “How Can I Convince them to do So?”
The reason it is hard to live more sustainable is because it is much more expensive and they aren't like other regular store, open all day everyday. The way we can get people to try and live more sustainable is by trying to encourage them to change there ways of eating and make a new diet plan.

!School Garden!

When I went to the school garden, I was thinking about some of the questions below.

How well do you think the garden was maintained?
I thought for the most part the garden was maintained okay, but there were plants and fruits that should have been harvested already that were dying. It seemed like the garden was well thought out because it wasn't like a little start up garden, it was a garden that over the years could grow and be successful.

What struck you? Why?
What struck me was that, things were actually growing, that sowed that the seniors really did care to put this dead area to life. When I heard of seniors that started a garden, i thought of a little garden that was on its dying path but it was the total opposite.

Was the garden what you expected?
The garden to me was nothing like I expected, it was full of life and was beautiful.

Do you think the seniors care about the garden?
There are always going to be some that care and some that would let it die if it was there choice. For the most part it seemed like the seniors did care to put this dead piece of land to life, because they were all helping out and having fun with it.

When I got to the garden, I met up with one of the seniors and asked her these questions.

What’s your name? Ashley.

Why do you do this? To learn about the environment around you, the many different types of plants and how to take care of them.

How long have you been doing this? I have been doing this since January.

How do you feel about people starting there own gardens? It makes them aware about there surrounding and it really gets them to think about what they are eating and where it comes from.

Why did you choose this place to put the garden? It was dead and we decided to bring it to life. There was nothing there so we put it to work.
