!School Garden!

When I went to the school garden, I was thinking about some of the questions below.

How well do you think the garden was maintained?
I thought for the most part the garden was maintained okay, but there were plants and fruits that should have been harvested already that were dying. It seemed like the garden was well thought out because it wasn't like a little start up garden, it was a garden that over the years could grow and be successful.

What struck you? Why?
What struck me was that, things were actually growing, that sowed that the seniors really did care to put this dead area to life. When I heard of seniors that started a garden, i thought of a little garden that was on its dying path but it was the total opposite.

Was the garden what you expected?
The garden to me was nothing like I expected, it was full of life and was beautiful.

Do you think the seniors care about the garden?
There are always going to be some that care and some that would let it die if it was there choice. For the most part it seemed like the seniors did care to put this dead piece of land to life, because they were all helping out and having fun with it.

When I got to the garden, I met up with one of the seniors and asked her these questions.

What’s your name? Ashley.

Why do you do this? To learn about the environment around you, the many different types of plants and how to take care of them.

How long have you been doing this? I have been doing this since January.

How do you feel about people starting there own gardens? It makes them aware about there surrounding and it really gets them to think about what they are eating and where it comes from.

Why did you choose this place to put the garden? It was dead and we decided to bring it to life. There was nothing there so we put it to work.

Living a Sustainable Life

What struck me about this show was, one, how much corn is in everything we buy. Two, that people aren’t eating healthy because they cant afford it. I can’t believe that healthy food is growing more and more expensive because there is not much left of it.
I think that people should be encouraged to start a garden and buy from local farmers. It’s hard to live a sustainable lifestyle if we can’t find food that will support us and help us on that path.

We can be the people to change and, maybe start a little garden of our own, or buying from local famers. Whenever you buy food from places like, farmers market we are supporting them and not the big slaughterhouses or the infected food that is being put into stores.

When I was talking to my mom, she said, “I think it is healthier to eat from your own area and that by doing so you are supporting that farmer.” She also said, “It is a good skill for people to be self reliant, so they could start there own little garden and then throughout the years, it will grow and grow so that people don’t have to depend on others as much.” My mom also said, “I think it is exciting to watch things grow and I like to see the rewards of my hard work and efforts.” I agree with what my mom said because I was able to help her build our own garden right outside our house, and it feels good to go outside and pick a fresh fruit or vegetable and now that it has not been contaminated at all.

My Ishmeal

Quote:
"If you raise your hand and say, 'Gee, Ms. Smith, I haven't understood a single word you've said all day,' Ms. Smith is going to hate you. If you raise your hand and say, 'Gee, Ms. Smith, I haven't understood a single word you've said all week,' Ms. Smith is going to hate you five times as much. And if you raise your hand and say, 'Gee, Ms. Smith, I haven't understood a single word you've said all year,'
Ms. Smith is going to pull out a gun and shoot you."

Response:
I think this quote is exactly right and that nothing explains it better. People are taught in schools and at home, to not question authority, but if you don’t ask questions, you can never grow as a person. Here is a quote I found to back this up. “He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.” This shows, that we need to ask questions. No question is a stupid question.

Divorce

“Come here boy!” Edna yells to her dog as he comes screaming past her trying to stop, his hair flowing elegantly in the air.

“Good boy, you want a treat? Good boy!” Edna said as she runs inside tripping over the little rocks in her way to grab a dog bone, she comes back outside throws the treat to her dog, and goes back to her gardening. After an hour of sweating and hard work she takes off her pink gloves that look as if they were 100 years old, her finger tips popping out of the tops, little cuts all around them and they smelt like she had just pulled them right out of a garbage can. She walks to her porch, sits down and takes a drink of her ice-cold lemonade, when she hears someone crying. “Hello? Anybody there? Hello?” Edna walks inside and hears a girl crying. She turns around and sees her daughter. “Kelly? Why are you crying?” Edna says in a soft calm tone.

“Rob wants to divorce me,” Kelly said.

“Why would he want to do that? Look at you; you’re beautiful, nice, and sweet. And you’re only 25,” Edna said looking at Kelly’s sparkling green eyes.

“He said, ‘you get in the way of my gang life and I can’t keep taking care of you when you get sick’ that’s why he wants to get divorced,” she said in such a dark tone as if she wanted to go over and drive a knife through his heart.

“Why did you marry this guy again? Don’t answer that. So what are you going to do?” Edna asked. Kelly walks over to the bed and lies down. Her face was pale and starting to turn green, she starts coughing and spitting up blood. You could tell she was sick. “Your sick right?”

“Yeah I am really sick, that’s why he kicked me out today because he was sick of taking care of me, uhuh uhuh!” she said still coughing.

“We are going to call him right now,” Edna said fiercely as she pounded over to the phone. Ring ring ring, “Who the heck do you think you are?” she screamed into the phone! Her hair flying up in the air, like devil horns.

“Who are you? And why are you yelling at me?” Rob said calmly.

“This is your wife’s mother that’s who, who do you think you are trying to divorce Kelly just because she is sick?” Edna yells so loud her voice cracks and she lets out a cough that made Kelly jump. Edna’s eyes now blood shot.

“She isn’t worth wasting my life, I could be out having fun, but no, I have to take care of this sick woman. And I don’t get anything from it!” Rob said now screaming through the phone like Edna.

“Oh my gosh, you really think that going out, partying and being in a gang is better then having a beautiful wife that loves and cares for you? What goes on in that head of yours? She will be better soon and one day you will ask yourself, ‘why did I do that’ and she will be living peacefully with someone that loves her,” Edna explained.

“That’s all good for you but don’t you ever come crying to me one day saying, ‘please take her back I cant handle it anymore’ because I know that will happen one day. My brain functions fine but Kelly’s doesn’t!” Rob said in a very disgusting tone.

“Yes it is good for me, my daughter will be living with me what better can it get?” Edna said in a very stern tone.

“Stop giving me this stupid lecture and if you ever call me back I will do something that will make you regret you were ever living!” Rob said in a really dark and hateful tone. Click, the phone hung up.

“What a jerk! I don’t think we will be calling him for awhile!” Edna said now shaking in fear, her hair now settling down back over her beautiful green eyes.

Looking like she was going to pass out, Kelly starts to cough. “Uhuh uhuh uhuh!” her face now as green as Edna’s eyes. Kelly says half asleep, “What am I going to do?”

“Right now you are going to rest and try to get better!” Edna says as she walks over to Kelly and gives her some blankets. “Its getting late I am going to go to bed now, are you going to be okay?”

“Yeah I will be fine.”

“Alright good night,” Edna says walking up to her bed.

At 1:30 in the morning Edna wakes up to coughing and weird sounds, she runs down stairs to Kelly throwing up, half of her body hanging over the side of the bed. Blood was everywhere.

“I need a doctor,” Kelly tried to squeeze out of her mouth before she let out another load of fluids. Edna runs over to the phone falling over everything in her way.

“Hello, hello, I need a doctor now. HURRY!” Edna said to the medical help on the phone panicking.

“I will be right over!” said the doctor. Edna goes back to the bed and sees that Kelly doesn’t have a lot of time.

“What can I do for you?” Edna asks Kelly running around trying to do things for her. “She is going to die, she is going to die. It’s all my fault,” Edna thought to her self now panting from all the running.

The doctor gets to the house and knocks on the door. Edna runs over to the door and opens it, but by the time they get to the bed they saw Kelly had gone to a better place. Edna falls to the ground crying, rolling in all the blood. She didn’t care, her
daughter just died. The doctor covers Kelly with a blanket; they walk into the other room to talk about what to do.

The whole next day Edna works out where Kelly will be buried. It was Kelly’s wish to be buried on Edna’s land so Edna finds a way to make that happen.

That night Edna goes to sleep crying her eyes out thinking what to do next. She finally falls asleep, but at 3:00 she wakes up to footsteps on the roof. “What could this be?” Edna said as she walks to the window and sees this big van parked outside. She grabs a shotgun and walks down stairs.

“There are five of them and one of me,” Edna whispered to herself while she snuck around the wall and hit one of them across the head with the butt of the gun. As she rolled from room to room she realized that one of them was Rob her daughter’s husband. She yells out to him, “You better get out of my house right now Rob or you are going to regret ever living. Does that sound familiar? Yes it does because you were the dingbat that said it to my daughter! And guess what she is dead so you got your way!” Edna said very ferociously, like she was about to prance on them.

“You better go back to bed before someone gets hurt,” Rob yelled as she jumped from room to room.

“You are the one that’s steeling all my things after your wife just passed away. How about you put everything down and leave me to my peaceful home,” Edna suggested to Rob, still trying to get from room to room. She took one of the men out with one
shot.

“OWWWW you freaking devil. You better not take another shot,” The man that just got shot said when he saw a leg sticking out behind the wall. He picks up his M16 and unloads on her leg.

“ AHHHH is this what real men do now a days? Come into a house of a woman whose daughter just died the day before and taking all her things? You guys are pathetic.”

“Lets get out of here,” Said Rob. They start walking out when there was one last gunshot. Rob hits the ground.

“I told you that you should have left before something happened,” Edna said while she uses all the strength she has to get to the phone and dials 911.

Time Travelers

Project Description: This was an essay the I did that explained what my civilizations government which was Kush was like and how it functioned.

Process: I went through many different drafts to get to my final product. I started by getting random information and talking to my group and trying to find as much more information and compare what we all got. Then we wrote a rough draft that was reviewed by my group then I got my paper back and I wrote a first draft. that was then looked over and corrected by my mom and dad. I took it to Charlotte and she went over it and realized that my formate was all wrong so I took it back and pretty much wrote the whole paper again. After that draft I was able to right the final draft and got that graded from Charlotte which became my final grade.

Reflection: From my paper I learned that one there was a civilization named KUSH. Then I learned how much time has to be put into just siting your information. The biggest challenge I came across was formating my paper to the right standards. I think I needed more evidence in my paper so that people could go to my paper and know it is true facts. All my life I will need to show evidence and not go off of just one site or one source.

Here is my paper:

Kush Civilization
Civilization is built on a number of ultimate principles...respect for human life, the punishment of crimes against property and persons, the equality of all good citizens before the law...or, in a word justice. This quote shows that there are a lot of aspects to civilization there are going to be ups and downs. But being civil means that not one person just has to be civil, everyone has to join together and respect one another. In the civilization Kush they were pretty well of and but there government was a monarchy which was not very productive. The government would do pretty much what ever they wanted, and didn’t help the cause of respecting others. There would be contention between the people and the ruler. Although a monarchy can be an effective form of government, for the Kush it proved over and over to be unsuccessful.

The Kush were a trade civilization located near the Nile River. They spoke the language Meroitic and Nubian. The main religion was an ancient Egyptian religion that was based on polytheism or, worshiping of many Gods. The Kush copied a lot that the Egyptians did like their religion, government, and their form of farming, this made it very easy because they didn’t have to figure out what worked or not because it was already used and shown. The Kush developed their own arts and kept good records through pictures and drawing. The civilization flourished from 1070s to 350 BC. In 780 BC the capital was moved to Napata but soon after was moved to Meroe were it stayed for the remainder of their existence. Kush was right next to the Nile River so there were a lot of advantages, one being that it was easy to trade. The way they would trade was by riding in little boats full of crops, weapons and more. Another advantage was that the land was really fertile so their crops would be easy to grow, harvest and plant. It also made it so the Kush wouldn’t have to always be watering and taking care of them because the crops already had a natural mother (Nile River) that would give it water and nutrients. Although that is one example of success the most important one that I found was having a representative looking over Egypt.

The Kush has many strengths, but one was that the ruler picked a person to be a representative and to communicate with Egypt because of how big of a role Egypt played in Kush. This was important and a good idea because they could share ideas and make sure that there is no hate between the two. Kush would make a lot of things out of iron so the government made it possible to make sculptures and weapons so that the Kush could sell them and have good strong weapons for war. Kush was smart to be friends with Egypt because they could easily take over Kush. The Kush started to have the idea of having a different government because of how there were starting to have representatives and not just have one main person in charge. There was a ruler named Piye, who in 727 BC, thought it would be a good idea to attack Egypt in a time that Egypt was trying to find the right ruler so Piye got his Norman ally to help him and together defeated Egypt and expanded Kush. Although they’re some strengths, there has to be weaknesses.

There will never be a civilization that doesn’t have any weaknesses, so lets see what Kush’s were. It seemed like they were headed in the right path by the ruler appointing a representative but that just wasn’t enough. They needed to have a set up government like we have today that would help the civilization run smoother and make it so laws and restrictions were put through the people so they could all agree on the matter. Later on in Kush’s history Kush’s ruling system was not running well like when they attacked Egypt, so Egypt thought it would be a good idea to get revenge so they went to war and defeated Kush. Kush definitely needed to improve their government yet they didn’t have enough materials to know how it should be put together. The Incans had a very close life style and were like the Kush in the government form.

The form of government that the Incas had was a monarchy. This form wasn’t very effective because it brought war between the people and the king/queen. Everybody wanted to be king so the people would go and kill the ruler and there family so that they could be king. But in few instances the government made it possible to expand by conquering different civilizations. There were ups and downs in this civilization. The government helped the poor fed the hungry and clothed the naked. The government helped the society grow and made a very helpful and peaceful society. Now in the long run was this form of government successful or not?

Any government is going to help and hinder the society but in this case I think that Kush was well set up and at time the rulers would make good decisions and make bad decisions. The ruler could always do what he wanted and you are never going to have the same ruler over the years. There are always going to be different rulers that do different things, they can abuse their power of use there power to help. So I don’t think there is one answer to this but over all I think they had some good rulers that helped the civilization. The government is always a big part of a civilization so I don’t think that this civilization was led to success through the many different rulers. I thought that having a representative made it so the ruler would not only see the side he wanted but he saw a little about what others wanted.

Over time, I don’t think that the Kush’s government was helpful and successful. But Kush had a good idea by appointing a representative to stay in touch with Egypt. Then they went and attacked Egypt, which expanded Kush for a while before it backfired and later Kush was over throne by Egypt. Monarchy is never a stable way to go. Because more than half of the time it never ends good, by the ruler doing whatever he/she wants or just by not having a government that worked well with people. “A monarchy is a merchantman, which sails well, but will sometimes strike on a rock and go to the bottom, whilst a republic is a raft which will never sink, but then your feet are always in water.”

Time Travelers Pillar

Project Description: This is a painted project we did that represented our civilization. It had to be our civilization and the pillar we picked and for me it was government.

Process: I first researched some pictures of Kush Government then picked one and made it my own. I did a first draft and then had to do one more draft because mine wasn't the right concept. I got it signed off by Mele and then painted it.

Reflection: I learned that painting is much harder then just drawing it on paper. I had a hard time with the right size of brush that I used. I first had a very big brush and ended up doing my whole pillar again. I would have changed the color and I would spend more time on it because it will be on that pillar for awhile. I don't that this will help me later in life because I don't plan to be a artist, but it will teach me to spend more time on things like this.

Hero Reflection

Hero Reflection
A hero is someone that changes the life of another person through there actions. Someone that helps make there community/world a better place for everybody.

The hero project got me to think what a hero really was and who qualifies to be a hero. The first thing that poped into my head when I heard the word hero I thought, "Super Hero." But no thats not the type of hero I wanted. This project was meant to change our perspective on heros and to broaden our thinking process of what a hero really is.

We started out naming Super Heros. And gradually went into people living on the earth right now that could be heroic. So we brainstormed different heros in our eyes. I ended up doing my mom because she is the ultimate hero. We went through the process of drafting. We rote our 1st draft and had a pier review with the other classes. Then went home and rote the 2nd draft. Brought that in and got it corrected by Charlotte (our amazing teacher). It was hard thinking how much she would have to say but I turned out okay. I made a final draft, marked all my corrections and turned it in for final revisions. I turned it into a template, made it look really good and then put it on my DP.

I learned a lot about my mom and got to go into deep and personal questions with her. There were a couple of different problems. Like formating my document and adding really descriptive language but over all it was good. If I were to do this again I would change a few questions and make the story more focused on the one heroic moment. I would try to put more detail and go into deeper thought to make the story more emotional and fun. It will make me think more and go into more thought about my subject. It broadened my learning process from a 6 to a 9 and made it so I could wright better and more interesting.

I picked wonder because in my story I wondered alot about how she would answer the questions and wondered why she used some answers because they seemed a little wierd.

Angry Sam

Literary Device
Catching the signal from one of her friends, Angela brushed her skirt, took a deep breath and walked towards where he was sitting.

“Hey what’s up?” Angela said in a high-pitched voice, thinking to herself, ‘He looked like a rock just waiting to be picked up and thrown down river.’

“Nothing really, my mom is late picking me up and I have soccer in ten minutes.” Sam mumbled growing madder every second. “Please go away. I am not in the best mood right now and I just want to be alone.”

“Alright then jeez! Someone is not a very happy camper.” She yelled as she stomped away. She thought to herself. ‘His face was a big dark moon giving off no light or happiness.’ Angela walked back over to her friends and said, “That bowl of gunk over there is in the worst mood ever, what happened to his today?”

“Well his mom and dad have been fighting lately and he doesn’t know what’s going to happen.” Jadon announced to everybody sitting around him.

Now felling a little sad I walked over to him said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know what you have been going through and I want you to forgive me.” Knowing the answer I started walking away when he said.

“I sorry too, I didn’t need to take my anger out on you.”

“Ya think, I mean yes probably. But I forgive you.” She said calmly sitting down next to him, as her face became a tomato.

“Thank you!” He said as they walked down to Sam’s mom’s car.

SENSORY DETAIL SOUND

I walk into the gym. Shoes squeaking softly, echoing throughout the whole building. People talking in the distance. Hearing onloy there breath. It gets louder and louder. I could here something that sounded like a tennis ball being hit. Every so often there would be a tennis ball being hit, squeaking shoes get softer and softer. Then, it goes and starts over. Shoes squeak. Ball gets hit. But wait it is different. Its now soft and calm. Shoes squeak, Ball being hit. Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. Now it sounded calm, very happy and active. Then out of nowhere it everything just stopped. And I went on thinking what that sound really was.

SLOB Deleted Scene

I woke up thinking what I will do today. I looked over at the calendar and saw that it was Sunday.  I got up and started working on my lesson for church. I went outside, that’s were I usually go to think. I started to write down ideas when I saw these to strange figures walking up the dirt path. One was big and black who looked like she just got back from war, and the other was a young scrawny white girl. They walked up to me.

“Hello I am lily and this is Rosaleen,” said the little one. “Nice to meet you, I am August.” “Where are you guys going?” Lily answered saying, “ we don’t really know.” I thought to myself, why they would be out here and not know where they are going. “Are you guys hungry?” “Yes” they said swiftly. She took them to her house. They had toast and honey. “Wow this honey is really good” Said lily, after her third piece. “Yeah I harvest my own honey.” “That must be pretty hard to take care of,” said lily. “Its not so bad, I have two other sisters that help out.”

They started to leave when I thought to myself how they would survive so I told them, “whenever you need somewhere to stay just come knocking on my door and I will be there.” “Thanks,” said lily. “Yeah Thanks” Rosaleen mimicked. After they left I went outside and finished preparing my lesson.

Favorite Fictional Hero

My favorite fictional hero is Spider Man from the movie Spider Man 1, 2, and 3. Spider Man is a character that got bitten by a spider and got spider senses.

He is one of my heros for two reasons. The first one is he goes around protecting people from danger. The second one, is in the third movie when he becomes overcome by a bad spirit, and he walks with the bad spirit for a while because it makes him feel more powerful. He finally realizes that it makes him weaker so he overcomes the bad spirit and becomes good again.

This hero is special because it tells a story about everyday life. This hero is like us in life we all start out good and in our life we choose to choose good choices or bad. Spider Man started good and then he felt like being bad made him better and more powerful. We are all exposed to bad things today, and we can let it overcome us or not.
